Conjoined twins die at NICH

KARACHI, Jan 22: The conjoined twin girls born at a Larkana hospital on Thursday died here at the National Institute of Child Health on Sunday.

Reports said the twins were born to Wajida, wife of Mazhar Ali Lakhair, at the Shaikh Zaid Hospital for Women in Larkana.

Residents of Nau Goth of Mehar Taluka, they were brought to the NICH on Saturday. The babies were conjoined at the chest and abdomen.

Confirming the death of the conjoined twins, Dr Jamal Raza, the director of the NICH, said the case of the twins was very complicated. They were kept in the ICU of the NICH.

Dr Mahesh Kumar of the Chandka Medical College Hospital had advised the parents to shift the babies to Karachi for further management as the condition of the twin was precarious.

According to him, both seemed to share a single liver and heart, which made it extremely difficult to save their lives.

Wajida and Mazhar had told media that the twins were their first children.—PPI
