RAWALPINDI, Jan 20: The cash-strapped Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) came up with a unique solution to its economic woes as it made the water consumers pay their bills after every two months instead of three.

Managing Director, Wasa, Raja Shaukat Mehmood said during a meeting on Friday that the residents would now pay their sewage and water bills after two months because it would not only reduce burden on the consumers but also enable Wasa to collect its revenue on time.

Both commercial and domestic consumers have been asked to pay water bills after two months instead of three and according to sources, Wasa has also a plan to collect tariff on monthly basis at a later stage.

Wasa has been given magisterial powers by Punjab government for dealing with cases relating to non-payment of water bills, water theft and damage to its infrastructure, however, the absence of consumer data is still a big challenge for the agency.

A statement issued by the agency also urged the consumers to make judicious use of water.
