Attempt to smuggle arms from Darra foiled, two arrested

KOHAT, Jan 17: Security forces on Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle arms from Darra Adamkhel to Peshawar and arrested two carriers at Spina Thana checkpost.

Official sources said that the security forces stopped a Suzuki car (9040Karachi) at Spina Thana and upon search found 40 pistols and hundreds of cartridges in it. Two carrier Zahoor and Ameer Khan were also taken into custody.

Meanwhile, district coordination officer Shahidullah Khan has banned display of arms and gathering of more than five persons in Kohat district in view of the upcoming chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

The ban would remain intact from Jan17 to 23 on gathering of more than five persons, walk-chalking, display of arms by civilians etc.

It is pertinent to mention that some sinister elements wrote controversial remarks on the wall of a seminary in Mustafa bazaar. The police party visited the site and removed the text with white spray.

The city police registered a complaint and have started investigation.

SUSPECTS HELD: Police on Tuesday arrested eight suspects in connection with the killing of two policemen a day before at a hotel near Kohat Cement Company here.

The police said that the suspects were arrested during a search operation in the area near the company on the main Kohat-Rawalpindi road. They said thatinterrogation in the case was underway.

The sources said that the owner of the hotel where the incident took place recorded his statement in Bilitang police station on Tuesday. He had shut his hotel soon af ter the incident, they said.

Two policemen driver Munawar and constable Jehanzeb were killed and their mobile van was partially damaged due to the firing on Monday. Sources said that the two were taking tea at the hotel when unknown armed men opened fire on them following a brawl.

A case has been registered with Bilitang police station in the light of statements of eyewitnesses.

Meanwhile, the two policemen driver Munawar of Karak and constable Jehanzeb of Shakardarra were laid to rest in their respective towns.
