LHC summons Dr Kamran

LAHORE, Jan 9: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought personal appearance of Punjab University acting vicechancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Friday to explain his position on a petition challenging a Punjab government's notification allowing him to serve as acting-VC during interregnum.

Hearing a petition filed by Prof Dr Mugheesuddin, a candidate for the slot that fell vacant after Dr Kamran's term expired on Jan 2, Justice Sheikh Ahmad Farooq also sought reply from the higher education department secretary and others by Jan 13.

The petitioner submitted that Dr Kamran had completed his four-year term as vice chancellor and could not have been granted extension or interim charge.

He said giving extension to a retired person was an unlawful act and violation of the Supreme Court's judgments.

The petitioner asked the court to set aside the impugned notification.

CAB: Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan of the Lahore IIigh Court will take up on Tuesday (today) a petition filed by a PPP activist's daughter against non-provision of cab under the Yellow Cab Scheme.

Petitioner Hina Eithisham, who holds a masters degree, said that she had applied for the provision of a cab after fulfilling all requirements set by the government. But, she was discriminated for being the daughter of a PPP activist, she added.She asked the court to direct the government to issue her a cab.— Staff Reporter
