Passport office: Official injured in assault

ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: Assistant director of Rawalpindi Passport Office was injured on Friday when two visitors to his office, one of them claiming to be the media adviser of a political party, assaulted him.

A police officer said that Zulfikhar Ali and Khadim Hussain came to Rawalpindi Passport Office at Peshawar Road Rawalpindi to collect traveling document and went in the office of Deputy Assistant Director Ghulam Mustafa.

One of them introduced himself as the media adviser of PML-N and burst in anger when he was told by the officer that his traveling document was yet to be received from headquarters, he added.

He said that the visitor said it was his fourth visit to the office to collect the passport, but due to negligence of the passport staff his document yet to be posted, the officer said

The police officer said the visitor abused him and blamed the passport office staff for the delay. When the arguments got heated the visitor attacked him with his mobile phone, the officer said.

The visitor hit his nose with mobile phone which started bleeding, the police officer said, adding, hearing the screams of Mustafa other staff, including security guards, rushed to his office and found him injured. The two attackers were overpowered and detained in the office.

Later they were handed over to Tarnol police with a complaint against them for legal action. They were shifted to police station and put behind the bar after registration of a case.

The injured was also taken to hospital where he was given medical assistance.

In the meantime, over a dozens armed men raided the police station to get the media adviser freed but remained unsuccessful. — Munawer Azeem
