One killed on road

ATTOCK, Dec 27:  A man was killed and another injured in a road accident near Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Channel.

Police sources said that Amir Suhail along with his friend Abdul Jabbar was on way from Haji Shah village to Attock on motorcycle rickshaw on Monday evening.

As they reached Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Channel, they were hit by a speedy wagon. Resultantly,both sustained injuries and were removed to the DHQ hospital where Amir Suhail succumbed to the injuries.

Police registered a case against the wagon driver, who had escaped from the scene. —Correspondent

Speed cameras

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will install new speed checking cameras on main roads of the city to keep check on speeding as well as rash driving by the motorists.

Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Dr Moeen Masood, in a meeting on Tuesday, said that police officials including inspectors would be given training in use of these cameras as well as maintaining them.He said that speeding was the main cause of road accidents and ITP personnel were working very efficiently to check this violation.

The newly obtained speed checking cameras will be installed initially at Margallah Road, Seventh Avenue, Islamabad Expressway, Kashmir Highway, Murree Road, Park Road and other important avenues.— Staff Reporter

Liquor smuggling bid

TAXILA, 27: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) in two different incidents foiled liquor smuggling bid besides recovering a stolen car and arresting two car-lifters.

NHMP spokesman Umar Shoaib told newsmen here on Tuesday that during patrolling on Islamabad-Peshawar motorway (M-1) they seized 40 litres of liquor during snap checking and arrested a man besides impounding his car. While in another incident, police recovered a stolen car and arrested its lifter. —Correspondent

Chakwal chamber

CHAKWAL, Dec 27: The years-long efforts of local businessmen finally came to fruition when they got their chamber of commerce and industry on Tuesday.

The maiden meeting of Chakwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) was held at the residence of industrialist Qazi Mohammad Akbar which elected Zafar Bakhtavri as chief executive and Sahabzada Abdulqadoos as president of the CCCI. The chamber has 153 members.

Talking to Dawn, President of CCIC Sahabzada Abdulqadoos vowed to work for a tax free industrial zone in the district. He said the elections of the chamber would be held every year.

He expressed the hope said that the chamber would give boost to industrial development in the area.

“The Motorway has increased the importance of Chakwal that’s why we would try our best to make it a tax free industrial zone,” he said. —A Correspondent
