Doctor among four shot dead in city

KARACHI, Dec 23: Four persons, including a doctor, were shot dead in different localities of the city on Friday, police said.

They said that two armed men riding a motorcycle fired multiple shots on Dr Mehboob Siddiqui when he came out of Shamsi Hospital located in Shamsi Society, Malir, within the remit of the Al-Falah police station on Friday evening.

The 50-year-old victim, who was a dermatologist, sustained three bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.

The police said that the victim was a resident of Rafah-i-Aam Society in Malir. He was said to be associated with the TableegiJamaat and used to attend their congregations.

They said that according to the victim’s colleagues and family members he did not get any threat and there was no enmitybetween him and any other individual or group.

Prior to this incident, in an almost similar style, two armed assailants riding a motorcycle shot dead a young man on NishtarRoad when he came out of his apartment building.

Risala SHO Abid Shah said that 25-year-old Kashif Ali was targeted when he came out of his apartment in Akhara Building onNishtar Road in the afternoon.

He suffered multiple bullet wounds and died before he could be shifted to the nearby Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).

Quoting the victim’s uncle Mehmood Ali, who was with him when the incident took place, the area SHO said that he pleaded with the suspects not to shoot his nephew.

The victim was the younger brother of a prominent Nauha Khawan, Rajab Ali, and a member of Anjuman Shabab-ul-Mominin.

However, the area SHO described the incident as an outcome of some personal enmity.

From the CHK, the body was taken to Rizvia Imambargah for funeral.

Till late in the night, the FIR regarding the killing was not lodged at the Risala police station.

Another young man, who had just returned home from abroad, was killed while resisting a robbery attempt at Shaheed-i-Millat Expressway on Friday morning.

Police said that 25-year-old Allahnoor was heading home in Qayoumabad C Area after arriving here from Saudi Arabia.

The area SHO said that the victim was travelling in an auto-rickshaw when two suspects riding a motorcycle, who werefollowing him from the airport, intercepted the vehicle at Shaheed-i-Millat Expressway within the remit of the Baloch Colonypolice station and attempted to snatch his suitcase. The young man offered resistance and the robbers fired at him and

escaped with the victim’s valuables.

No FIR pertaining to the killing was lodged till late at night.

In yet another incident, a young man was found shot dead in the Shershah graveyard on Friday evening, police said.

They said that the victim was shot in the head. Two live bullets of a 9mm pistol and a cellphone were found from the victim’s possession, they added.

The police said that the victim appeared to be a member of the Kutchhi community.

The body was shifted to the CHK for medico-legal formalities.
