Trade policy framework being amended

ISLAMABAD: A supplementary Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2009-12 with changes in the Import and Export Policy Order 2009, is likely to be introduced shortly to facilitate liberal trade regime with India.

The changes would be notified by the commerce minister their vetting by the law ministry. Earlier, these changes were approved by the ECC.

However, an official of the commerce ministry said that the initiatives, to be implemented by the Trade Development Authority under the trade policy framework 2009-12 have not been achieved due to the financial crunch as the finance ministry released only Rs1.0 billion against the Rs35 billion approved in 2009.

Under the changes, the textile policy to be executed by the ministry of textile Industry has been segregated from the main export policy as textile forms bulk of country’s exports, but there are issues concerning implementation of the textile policy.
