WHEN the PPP came to power, I was over the moon because of democracy in Pakistan after a pretty long gap. Like me, many Pakistanis must have been happy to see the people’s government. But later my expectations transformed into despondency for the PPP made so many compromises, failing to meet the expectations of the people.

My major grievance against the present government is lack of merit in every department. I belong to Nawabshah district which is hometown of President Asif Zardari. Sometimes ago Raja Rind, who belonged to Naushero district, left for Islamabad with a hope to get a job. But he was shocked to see rude and disappointing behaviour of the people at the helm. Disappointed by the treatment, the frustrated man committed suicide outside the Parliament House where public decisions are made.

Dhanni Bux Soho, who belonged to Larkana, a stronghold of the PPP, passed the SPSC examination, but never received an appointment letter. He waited for quite a long time but all in vain. Ultimately, poverty forced him to commit suicide. But these two cases did not have any impact.

I too faced discrimination when I appeared in written tests for some departments such as the National Bank, Hesco and district education in Benazriabad. I saw nothing but lack of merit. Despite being an MSc from the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, I was sidelined and appointments were made on purely political basis.

Organisations are the pillars of the state. If people are recruited on a political basis, what then would be the future of Pakistan?
