Imran promises competent team

LAHORE, Dec 19: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan says he will field such a team (to govern the country) whose members will be competent in their fields. He was speaking at a press conference here on Monday after singer Abrarul Haq announced joining the PTI.

He claimed the `tsunami’ of public support which his party enjoyed would sweep away “family” parties like the PPP, the PML-N and the PML-Q. Mr Khan said he would unveil his agenda of a new Pakistan in the Karachi public meeting scheduled for Dec 25.

He said Bilawal Bhutto had never lived in Pakistan and now the PPP chairperson was being taught Urdu. Similarly, he said (PML-N leader) Javed Hashmi could not come to lead the party regardless of his sacrifices for the party as only the Sharifs would lead the party.

He said it would make no difference if the PPP got majority in the Senate polls (due in March) as none could stop the wave of change.

He said no one, including Nawaz Sharif, challenged Asif Zardari’s credentials at the time of presidential polls though Zardari was facing trial in a number of cases.

About the memo case, he said it was a sensitive issue and the Supreme Court would decide either army or the government was involved in it.

He said he could not find angels for electoral politics however he would not award party tickets to any corrupt candidate.

SCRUTINY: The party has formed a 10-man scrutiny committee to check the entry of corrupt people to the party fold.

The PTI central executive committee has decided to establish the scrutiny committee, headed by PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, to ensure that entrants to the party are evaluated, says a press release issued by Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood on Monday.

“This was found necessary to improve our system to avoid influx of people whose integrity is doubtful or those who have a history of corruption and are of bad fame in society,” read the press release.

Members of the committee are: Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Arif Alvi (secretary-general), Malik Sohail (north Punjab), Mian Sajid Parvez (south Punjab), AVM (retired) Shahid Zulfiqar (central Punjab), Iftikhar Soomro (Sindh), Zohair Asheer (Sindh), Pervaiz Khattak (KPK), Shah Farman (KPK), and Nazar Baloch (Balochistan).
