Karachi United, Baloch Mujahid score narrow wins
KARACHI, Dec 17: The ninth Karachi United Football League (KUFL) witnessed tournament hosts Karachi United (KU) FC’s thrilling 2-1 win over Al-Shahbaz (Korangi) in Group ‘B’ while Baloch Mujahid (Ibrahim Hydri) thrashed Drigh Road Union with the same margin (2-1) in another game in Group ‘B’ at the Baloch Mujahid Stadium here on Friday evening.
The 50th game of the current event saw Karachi United FC dominating Al-Shahbaz from the start. Karachi United strikers Rehan Munir, Karim Kerai, Taha Rahman and Athar Qadri put the opposition under pressure by scoring two goals in the first half.
Karim Kerai netted the ball from a 25-metre distance directly on a free kick in the 17th minute while Rehan Munir doubled the lead in the 42nd minute when Taha Rehman’s powerful kick was sent back in by him after striking the cross bar.
Both teams played well in the second half, particularly in the last 10 minutes. Al-Shahbaz reduced the margin in the 80th minute through Mohammad Rafiq from a corner kick taken by Akhtar Rasheed.
Substitute striker Taha Alizai of Karachi United missed a sure chance in the 85th minute when Rehan Munir provided him with a golden opportunity in the goal area.
Al-Shahbaz’s chance of levelling the score failed when Akhtar Rasheed’s kick struck the cross bar and crossed the goal line in the dying moments, 90+2 minutes.
In the other game played earlier in the day, Baloch Mujahid recorded a thrilling win over Drigh Road Union 2-1.
Salal Raza took the lead in the 32nd minute for Baloch Mujahid and Drigh Road Union levelled the score in 86 minute through Rizwan Chiragh’s utilising a free kick.
Taj Mohammad scored in the 89th minute for the winner when midfielder Umer Bakhsh’s drive rebounded off goalkeeper Mohammad Jahangir.
