Nine ‘hitmen, robbers’ held

KARACHI, Dec 11: The Special Investigation Unit of police on Sunday claimed to have arrested nine members of a gang allegedly involved in several incidents of targeted killings and robberies in the city.

Speaking at a press conference, SIU DSP Usman Asghar said that the suspects — identified as Abdul Rahim, Noorul Bashar, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Anwar, Hanif, Mohammad Karim, Zaheer, Rana Habib and Atif Rashid — were picked up in different parts of the city.The police also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

The suspects were allegedly involved in at least 10 incidents of targeted killings and most of them were carried out in Korangi and its surrounding areas, the DSP added.

He said that the suspects had also allegedly carried out numerous street crimes and snatched cash from people coming out of banks’ branches in the city.

A car (KF-5953) and six bags of tea worth near Rs700,000 had also been recovered from their possession, the police officer added.
