Suspect identified by witnesses in scouts killing case

KARACHI, Dec 9: Two witnesses picked out one of the two suspects during an identification parade held before a magistrate on Friday in connection with the two scouts killing case.

Abdul Razzaq and Qari Inayatullah have been charged with killing Azhar Hussain and Zain Ali on Nov 27 near the Numaishtraffic intersection.

The judicial magistrate (east), Javed Malik, conducted the identification parade of both suspects after completing legal formalities in which two prosecution witnesses identified Qari Inayat and deposed that he was riding the motorcycle while his accomplice opened fire. However, they refused to identify the second suspect.

According to the prosecution, the scouts performing Muharram duty at the Numaish intersection were attacked after participants of a rally organised by the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat dispersed.

An FIR of the case was registered at the Solider Bazaar police station.

Police said that they had arrested the suspects on Dec 2 and the following day the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi remanded them in police custody till Dec 12.

Two suspects identified

A policeman identified two of the five suspects in a case pertaining to the escape of Ashura blasts suspects after an armed attack on the premises of the city courts.

Police claimed to have arrested alleged members of the banned militant outfit Jundullah — Syed Kamran, Mohammad Munir, Farhan Khan, Salar Ahmed and Amjad — and booked them in the case.

The police brought the suspects before a judicial magistrate, who conducted the identification parade. However, prosecution witness Imran Nazar only identified Salar and Amjad and assigned them their roles in the commissioning of the offence.

According to the prosecution, Murtaza alias Shakil, Muhammad Shaqib Farooqi, Wazir Muhammad and Murad Shah were allegedly involved in a number of cases related to bomb blasts during Muharram processions in Dec 2009 and on June 20,2010 they were brought from prison and produced before a judge in the city courts in a robbery case.

However, after the hearing, the suspects got freed from police custody by their aides following an armed attack on the city courts premises.

A police constable and suspect Murad Shah were killed during the attack.

A case (FIR No 82/10) was registered at city courts police station.
