Three looted at gunpoint

GUJAR KHAN, Dec 3: Two traders were deprived of cash and valuables by highway men on Sasral-Kontrila Road in thejurisdiction of Jatli police station while a woman was robbed of her gold ornaments and cash by the swindlers.

The sources said on Saturday that Shahzad Ahmed and his brother Haroon Ahmed, distributors of Liver Brothers were returning to their village Kontrila in a Suzuki van after sunset. When they reached Gharmala link road they were intercepted by three armed men. The traders were forced to turn their van back at gunpoint while one of the culprits boarded on their vehicle and took them to a deserted place and looted four computers, a laptop and cash amounting to Rs19,000 and ran away.

In the other incident, Rashida Parveen, 64, resident of Barki Jadeed locality was waiting for public transport at a bus stop in Jhelum when a corolla car stopped near her and a woman alighting from it asked her if she was going to Gujar Khan. As she replied in affirmative, the woman pushed her into the car in which two other persons were already sitting. “Instantly they gagged me with a piece of cloth and at pistol point ordered me to hand them over the gold ornaments. Later, they turned the car towards Kharian and threw me at a deserted place. They looted ornaments worth Rs250,000, cash”, Rashida Perveen said while lodging her complaint with the DSP Jhelum. — Correspondent

55 suspects arrested

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: Capital police on Saturday arrested 55 suspects during search operation conducted in different areas.

A spokesman for the police said the operation was conducted in the slums, residential areas, markets, and under-construction buildings in the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi and Aabpara police which led to the arrest of 25 and 30 suspects, respectively.

The Aabpara police conducted operation in the areas of G-7 and G-6 and after the combing, security in and around the sectors were further tightened. The Sabzi Mandi police conducted operation in fruit and vegetable market and slum areas along with villages located in its limits.

During the operation, the areas were also partially sealed to avoid the escape of miscreants. Sniffer dogs and metal andexplosive detectors were also used in the combing.— Staff Reporter

Procession passes peacefully

CHAKWAL, Dec 3: The most sensitive and largest of the Muharram processions passed off peacefully amidst tight security here on Saturday.

The procession of Muharram 7 taken out from Markazi Imambargah at Bhoun Road is considered one of the most sensitive processions of the province.

Special contingents of police were called in from Rawalpindi and Attock to assist the local police. Rangers and army-men were also on high alert to deal with any untoward incident.

District administration had chalked out special security plan. City’s major avenue Talagang Road was blocked while Bhoun Road was thoroughly sealed. Tehsil Chowk was also closed for commuters.  “By the grace of God the sensitive procession has been held quite peacefully”, Deputy Superintendent of Police Malik Allah Yar told Dawn. He said that walk-through gates were installed at the entrances of Imambargah and Chappar Bazaar. “Every person was thoroughly checked by metal detectors”, he maintained.

The Zakirs urged the audiences to follow the path of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A. H). Later the mourners beat their chests with chains and slaps. A large number of women also participated in the procession.

Besides this, there are five other sensitive processions taken out from different areas of the district. Twenty processions of B category have also passed calmly.— A Correspondent
