Two men shot dead in Orangi Town

KARACHI, Dec 1: Two watchmen were shot dead in separate incidents of firing in Orangi Town on Thursday, police said.

The officials added that the watchman of a soap factory was shot dead near the Zia Colony graveyard in the early hours of Thursday.

Wazir Khan, 45, son of Bagh Wali, was returning home in Orangi Town Sector 10 when unidentified armed men sprayed him with bullets, said an official at the Mominabad police station.

The victim suffered five bullet wounds and died on the spot while the attackers fled after the firing.

The body was later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The assailants also took away his pistol, said DSP Tariq Malik.

He added that the victim had no affiliation with any political party. He hailed from Mardan and had seven children, the officer said.

The police suspected personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing.

Another watchman was shot dead in Orangi Town near Islamia Colony within the remit of the Pirabad police station, police said.

They added that Ghulam Nazir, 47, son of Munir Gul, was on duty near Sheena Hotel in Orangi Town Sector 2 when armed men fired at him. A bullet hit him in the head, leaving him dead on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was a resident of Pakhtunabad Sector 8, the police said. The watchman also used to look after vehicles parked in the area.

No case was registered till filing of the report in the evening.

Robbers kill manA labourer was shot dead when he resisted an armed robbery in his house in Sector 14-B of Baldia Town early Thursday morning.

At least eight bandits entered a house in Raees Goth and took the family hostage at gunpoint, said an official at the Mauripur police station.

The bandits opened fire on 36-year-old Atif, son of Ashraf, when he refused to hand over cash to them.

The young man died on the spot and the bandits fled without taking away any valuables from the house.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The victim had two children, the police said.

Jewellery shop on Tariq Road lootedRobbers took away “artificial” jewellery said to be worth about Rs500,000 from a jewellery shop on Tariq Road within the remit of the Ferozabad police station early on Thursday, police said.

They said that the incident occurred at Silver Jubilee Jeweller shop located in a commercial area on Tariq Road where unidentified men early in the morning sneaked in the shop after breaking the padlocks and pulling up the shutter.

SHO of the area Ejaz Khawaja said that the robbers used a cutter to break the locks. The robbery took place at around Fajar timing, he added.

The shop dealt with silver and “artificial” jewellery and it was claimed that between Rs400,000 and Rs500,000 worth jewellery was stolen, the SHO added.

A watchman, Saboor, had been taken into custody for questioning, the police said.

An FIR of the incident was not registered till filing of this report.
