One shot dead

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: A man was shot dead while his nephew was injured by two armed motorcyclists in the capital’s rural area, police said on Wednesday.

The police said Shahid Amin along with his nephew, Asif Akbar was on his way to home located in Sangam Town from Khana.When they reached near Gangal, two riders of a motorcycle intercepted them.

The pillion rider pulled out a pistol and opened indiscriminate fire at them. As a result both suffered multiple injures and fellon the road.

The attackers escaped from the scene while the injured were shifted to the hospital where Shahid Amin was pronounced dead. The police registered a case and started investigation. — Staff Reporter

15 injured in three incidents

GUJAR KHAN, Nov 30: As many as 15 persons including three women were injured in three accidents on Wednesday, the police said.

The sources said that a Toyota van collided with a car while overtaking another vehicle on the G T Road. Resultantly, over a dozen persons were injured. They were shifted to THQ hospital. Later, four of the injured were shifted to Rawalpindi in critical condition. In another incident, a speeding car hit a motorcycle near hospital injuring motorcyclist Mohammad Abdullah who was shifted to a Rawalpindi hospital.

While Nazia Parveen, wife of Mohammad Jameel sustained serious burn injures in gas cylinder blast in village Pakka Khou.

The victim was shifted to THQ hospital and later was referred to Rawalpindi in critical condition. —Correspondent

Drug trafficker extradited

RAWALPINDI, Nov 30: A Pakistani convicted prisoner who was sentenced to life in prison in Thailand was extradited from Bangkok to Islamabad to serve his remaining sentence in Adiala jail on Wednesday, official sources said.

Masood Arif Anjum, who belonged to Sahiwal, was captured by the law enforcement agencies in Thailand for his involvement in a drug trafficking case and later was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Pakistani authorities had asked the Thai government to extradite him. In line with Pakistan’s request, Masood Arif Anjum was extradited to Islamabad from Bangkok on PIA’s flight PK-893.

Pillion riding banned

TAXILA, Nov 30: Pillion riding on 9th and 10th of Muharram has been banned in Hassanabdal to avert any untoward incident.

Talking to newsmen on Wednesday, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Shakeel Ahmed said that the administration made elaborate security arrangements to maintain peace during the holy month.

He said that army and rangers would be called out in case of any law and order situation. However, a decision on the subject would be taken by the relevant district administration; he said and added that 17 sensitive areas would be under strict surveillance of the law enforcement agencies.

Responding to a question, he said that ban would not be applicable on women, children under the age of 12 years, seniorcitizens, disabled persons, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services departments. — Correspondent

Rowing championship

TAXILA, Nov 30: The 29th National Rowing Championship would start on Dec 15 in Khanpur Dam Lake. Sources said that the National Rowing Championship to be organised by Pakistan Rowing Federation (PRF) would continue till Dec 18. — Correspondent
