`Friendly fire` kills robber

RAWALPINDI, Nov 28: A suspected robber was killed allegedly by one of his accomplices during a house robbery here in Rawat police area on Monday, police said.

The incident took place when a gang of five unidentified robbers broke into the house of Tariq Javed in Kalri village in the early hours.

On seeing some armed men inside the house, the inmates raised hue and cry which caught attention of people in the neighborhood. It created panic among the robbers who opened fire on the inmates.

“In an exchange of gunshots between the robbers and inmates, one of the suspected robbers was killed by one of his accomplices,” inspector Malik Yousuf who is probing into the incident told Dawn .

He added that seeing that one of their fellows had been hit and injured, the robbers escaped from the scene without taking away any valuable.

Police said the suspect who was killed belonged to Faisalabad and had been working at a factory. He had been on his job a day before and was identified by the police as Mohammad Omer Daraz.

The investigating officer said: “Although Omer Daraz was not having any criminal record with the local police, yet he was reported to be a criminal-minded person.” — Staff Reporter
