LAHORE, Nov 26: Nishtar Colony police registered two cases against five people, including the owners of a factory and a crane, on Saturday after six labourers were electrocuted and three others suffered critical burns during unloading the machinery at a factory in Shadab Colony on Friday.

However, police did not make arrests till Saturday night.

Razzaque, Ijaz, Zulfikar, Asif, Usman and Sabir suffered fatal electric shocks after a high voltage wire touched a heavy crane at Volta Factory.

Three others identified as Tariq, Shoaib and Allah Rakha, who also suffered burns, are now stated to be stable.

A police investigator told Dawn that partial investigation revealed that the factory owner and crane driver showed negligence during the lifting of machine.

He said the crane driver must have adopted precautionary measures while unloading the machinery.

He said a case under Section 322 (punishment for qatl bis-sabab) of the PPC was registered against factory owner Ghufran Ahmad, his son Munir Bashir, factory’s godown in-charge Abdul Rehman, crane owner Abdul Hafeez and crane driver Javed.

He said another case was got registered by the respective Lesco SDO for damage to the tension wire.

The investigator said the probe was under way to ascertain certain things with no arrests so far.

He said the families took the bodies of four victims to their native areas while two others belonged to Lahore.

FOUND HANGED: A 21-year-old servant of a government officer was found hanged with the ceiling fan of a room at his employer’s house in GOR-III Shadman on Saturday.

Ichhra SHO Waqar Ashraf said Ghulam Abbas of Vehari was servant of NIPA Director Khwaja Dawood, who is ex-Punjab Excise and Taxation DG.

Quoting Dawood, the SHO said he and his family returned home from Islamabad after five days and found Abbas hanged with the ceiling fan.

He said Abbas, who had been with them for the last five months, was alone after the family left for Islamabad. The family also found the victim’s cell phone powered off and on their return they broke open the lock to enter the house.

The SHO said the body had been shifted for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death, adding that the victim was getting Rs6.000 salary per month.

He said things would clear after the victim’s family joined the investigation.
