Robber shot dead by accomplice

ISLAMABAD, Nov 23: A robber was shot dead by his accomplices during an attempt to loot a bank branch in capital's rural area on Wednesday.

The police sources said that a person entered Habib Bank branch, located in Alipur. The bank staff got suspicious as he was acting mysteriously. Suddenly, he ran outside the bank branch when one of the staff members asked him about the purpose of his arrival.

On the direction of the manager, a security guard, Mehtab Shah, tried to intercept him but failed and later chased him.

The escapee tried to get on a car parked some yards away from the branch but he could not embark on the vehicle as the driver, seeing the security guard and a policeman chasing him, sped the vehicle. But before escaping from the spot, one of the riders fired a shot killing his accomplice on the spot.

Shortly after getting information, senior police officers including SSP Mohammad Yousuf Malik and SP Rural Faisal Bashir Memon reached the spot.

On their direction, the police blocked the roads but the alleged robbers could not be traced.

Later, the body of the outlaw was shifted to hospital and kept in the mortuary for further legal procedure. The deceased was later identified as Mohammad Fahim, a native of Mughalpura, Lahore.

Separate police teams were constituted to arrest the escapees.
