Waiter killed in attack on DHA café

KARACHI, Nov 23: Armed men barged into a popular café in the Defence Housing Authority area on Wednesday, shot dead a waiter and wounded a young customer before fleeing safely, police said.

They said that the café was located on Khayaban-i-Bukhari and it was not immediately clear who the target of the assailants was.

They said that the armed men barged into the café, opened an indiscriminate fire and fled.

As a result of the firing, the 18-year-old waiter, Gulfam, was killed while a 19-year-old customer, Mansoor Siddiqi, was wounded.

The police said that Mr Siddiqi suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen and was shifted to a private hospital where he was admitted for treatment. He was a nephew of a prominent businessman, the police said.

SSP South Naeem Ahmed Shaikh said that it was not a robbery bid.

“Though initial findings point to Gulfam as the target of the attack, we are investigating the matter without ruling out other possibilities,” he added. The body was moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Till late in the night, no FIR pertaining to the incident was lodged at the Darakshan police station.
