Man found tortured to death in Lyari

KARACHI, Nov 21: The body of a young man was found in a Lyari locality in the small hours of Monday, police said.

They said the body bore severe torture marks and was found on Mirza Adam Khan Road within the remit of the Kalri police station.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where the victim was identified as Shahid alias Toutla. He was a resident of the Kalakot area and recently released from jail on bail in a murder case, the police said.

A duty officer at the Kalri police station said that Shahid was sitting at a tea stall in Bihar Colony on Sunday evening when he was kidnapped. Later, his body was found on Monday.

The police said the victim was not related to the Lyari gang warfare. They were not sure about the motive behind the killing, but suspected that it might be linked to the murder cases registered against him.

Till late in the night, an FIR pertaining to the killing was yet to be registered.

Watchman found dead

A watchman was found dead in a vacant house in the North Nazimabad area on Monday, police said.

They said that the body of the watchman, Muqabil Shah, was found hanging from the ceiling of the basement of the vacant house.

Quoting his brother’s statement, the police said the victim had told him that he was going to collect the money he had been depositing with friends on a monthly basis. But when he did not return, his brother went to the house in North Nazimabad’sBlock N, where he found him dead, the police said.

They said he alleged that his brother was killed by three persons with whom he had been depositing his money. He said the killers hanged his brother to portray the incident as a suicide.

A case (FIR 529/2011) was registered against Maula Bukhsh, Sardaran Bibi and Abdul Majeed under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of the victim’s brother, Kalib Shah, at the Shahrah-i-Noor Jahan police station.

Septuagenarian killed

A 71-year-old man died when a stray bullet hit him in Orangi Town, police said. Sher Afzal was returning home after offering prayers  in Sector 10, Rahim Shah Colony, when he was hit by a stray bullet, said DSP Tariq Malick.
