Three killed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, Nov 20: Three persons were killed in different incidents here on Sunday.

In the first incident, a man was gunned down and another was injured over a petty issue in the Matta Mughalkhel area of Shabqadar tehsil.

The victim, Maqsud, son of Mehraban, had exchanged harsh words with the accused, Muzaffar Shah and Feroz Shah. The accused attacked Maqsud and killed him on the spot. The injured man, Raham Malik, was shifted to hospital.

In the other incident, Maskeen was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Shabqadar area. The police registered a case on the report of the victim’s brother Hanif Gul.

In a road accident, a 14-year-old boy was knocked down by a speeding pick-up van in the Bela Koroona area. He was identified as Osama.

Meanwhile, an official of Frontier Corps, Naik Abdur Rehman, who was killed in a bomb blast in Balochistan the other day, was buried at his ancestral graveyard in the Ameerabad locality on Sunday.—Correspondent

Chitral border police

CHITRAL, Nov 20: DCO Rahmatullh Wazir has said the border police are being made into a professional force to cope with the challenge of intrusion of militants into Chitral from across the border.

Addressing a darbar here on Sunday, he said in the recent past many steps were taken to upgrade the force, which included construction of fortified pickets along the border, provision of modern arms and ammunition and approval of service structure.

He said the force played commendable role in natural calamities and maintenance of peace.

Mr Wazir said the force was being renamed as Chitral Levies. He said the rider squad had recently been added to the force and its strength was also being augmented.

The darbar was first of its nature in the history of the force which was also attended by the assistant coordination officer Abdul Matin and other officers.—Correspondent

Clash claims life

PESHAWAR, Nov 20: One person was killed and three others sustained injuries in a clash at Mohallah Marveeha in the interior city here on Sunday.

According to officials of the C-Division police station, the clash took place between two sects on an issue of water tank (sabeel).

The members of one of the sects were painting the water tank to provide water to the mourners during the forthcoming Muharram, the police said, adding the other group stopped them from doing so.

Police said the exchange of fire resulted in the death of Mohammad Farooq and injuries to three passersby.

Police high ups reached the spot and deputed personnel on the sensitive areas. However, situation was tense till filling of this report.—Bureau Report

Stars of Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR, Nov 20: The Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti on Sunday said Stars of Pakhtunkhwa programme was an endeavour of the government to facilitate outstanding students in their studies by providing them monthly scholarships.

Talking to a Mohammad Yasin, who topped the computer science group in Kohat board, the chief minister said under the Stars of Pakhtunkhwa programme, government would facilitate first 10 outstanding students of matriculation and intermediate and will provide them Rs10,000 and Rs15,000 each.

He praised Mohammad Yasin for clinching first position in test of Kohat University of Science and Technology and grabbing second position in International Testing Service.

Mr Hoti said the government would also consider his wish to study in Comsats University Abbottabad. The chief minister said the government had also initiated a programme for PhD scholarship scheme abroad for students.—APP

Uplift projects in Bajaur

KHAR, Nov 20: The government was taking steps to provide basic amenities of life to tribal people at their doorsteps.

This was stated by assistant political agent Jehangir Azam Wazir while addressing a tribal jirga of Utman Khel tehsil on Sunday. He said the government was bringing less developed areas of Bajaur agency at par with the developed parts of the country.

The APA said different projects for provision of better health and education services besides irrigation and roads had been started in Bajaur to accelerate the pace of development.

He said record amount had been allocated in the annual development programme of Fata for completion of these projects.

He urged the people to be vigilant and inform political administration in case of seeing any suspected element.—APP
