Two injured in row over construction

HYDERABAD, Nov 20: President of the Sindh Goods Transport Owners Association Haji Asmatullah Mehsood and his son Sami were injured when a group of people fired at them in the Hala Naka area on Sunday.

The incident follows a controversy over a plot meant for a truck stand at Hala Naka. Mr Mehsood at a press conference on Nov 16 had said failure to retrieve 3.5 acres of land for the new truck stand from false claimants could lead to a “law and order situation”.

According to Syed Shafiq Ahmed Shah, vice-president of the asociation, Mr Mehsood had objected to an illegal construction by some people over the land in front of his office on Sunday morning. He said that his son Sami was also with him. A large number of people gathered there and some of them opened fire, injuring him and his son.

They were taken to the civil hospital where Asmatullah was operated upon and his condition is now reported to be out of danger.

Mr Mehsood has been taken to Karachi.

According to Wisar Mohammad, an ANP activist, a group of armed persons who were raising structure on the plot had opened fire on Mr Mehsood and his son.
