Two arms smugglers arrested

ATTOCK, Oct 30: Two smugglers were arrested as the attempt to smuggle huge cache of arms from tribal areas to Punjab was foiled by the police officials posted at the Teenmeala Chowk check post.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Mohammad Akhtar Abbass informed the media persons on Sunday that the police officials, during a general hold-up, searched a vehicle (LXW-7592) at Teenmeala Chowk check post on Attock-Kamra Road on Saturday late night and recovered six modern automatic machine guns and about   8,000 bullets including 1,500 bullets of Small Machine Gun (SMG), 2,900 of 44-bore gun, 2,000 of 7mm and 1,500 of 9-mm gun. Two alleged arms smugglers identified as Naveed Khan and Faheem Khan, residents of Peshawar district, were also arrested, he said.

Meanwhile, special security arrangements would be made to maintain law and order on Eidul Azha. Under the security plan, about 1,200 police personnel would be deputed at mosques, Imambargahs and other places where the Eid congregations would be held. Such as, security would also be beefed up at all the sensitive points including shopping centres, markets, bus stands and other public places.  Moreover, patrolling would also be intensified on the highways and other sensitive areas to keep strict vigilance on the movement of anti-social elements. All SDPOs and SHOs have also been directed to personally patrol the areas of their jurisdiction and ensure proper implementation of Eid security plan.
