HYDERABAD, Nov 15: The district Nazim, Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, has stressed the need for proper coordination between the District Public Safety Commission and the District Government and between the Commission and the District Police with a view to resolving the people’s problems without any delay.

He was presiding over the first formal meeting of the commission held at its newly-established office on Friday.

He congratulated Masood Pervez on his election as the chairman of the commission.

Makhdoom Saheb and the DCO, Mir Hussain Ali, assured the district government’s full support to the commission in its day-to-day working.

The district Nazim said that the members of the commission would be invited to attend the meeting of the District Council and be introduced to the councillors.

He said that a meeting would also be held to introduce the members of the commission with the officials of various departments.

The chairman of the commission, Masood Pervez, thanked the district Nazim and the DCO for their support saying that the commission would cooperate with the district government in redressing the grievances of the people.

He said the members of the commission belonging to various Talukas would be made in charge of those Talukas to resolve the people’s problems on an urgent basis.

He said that the record of all public complaints would be computerized and liaison would be maintained with all agencies and departments including the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) to redress the grievances of the people.

LUMHS: The academic activities at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) were disrupted at the Jamshoro campus as the students held a protest demonstration and sit-in after boycotting their classes on Friday.

The protest was held on the call of the Sindh National Students Front (SNSF) against the alleged increase in students problems at the campus.

The police had to resort to Lathi charge to disperse the angry students as a result of which at least 10 students had been injured.

A student reportedly slapped a police officer but this was denied by the SP, Kotri, Manzoor Khatian. However, police have arrested a student leader.

VC: The vice chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Prof Jan Mohammad Memon, in a press release said that a small group of students attempted to create disturbances by interfering in the academic atmosphere. The law enforcing agencies intervened and tried to control the situation.

The vice chancellor said that a student, Hameed Radhan, had misbehaved with the on-duty inspector and he had, therefore, been taken away by the police.

He claimed that no other untoward incident occurred, and added that with the administration being on full alert the situation was now well under control.
