Man killed in `car snatching` attempt

KARACHI, Oct 28: A resident of Malir Cantonment was killed in what police described as a car snatching attempt on University Road on Friday night.

While the police said that Raza Abbas Naqvi, 45, was shot dead for resisting the car snatching bid, the Jaffaria Alliance termed it a targeted killing.

The police said that Mr Naqvi was sitting along with his daughter in his car outside Rufi Shopping Centre near Met office when armed men tried to snatch the car (ACF-325) at gunpoint. As he resisted, they shot him dead and drove away the car while the little girl remained seated, the police added.

The victim, an employee of an insurance company, suffered three gunshot wounds in the chest and died before he could be shifted to the hospital, the officials said.

A puncture on the way compelled the armed men to abandon the vehicle and the girl near the entrance of Malir Cantonment, said a duty officer of the Mobina Town police station.

The police later shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

A spokesman for the Jaffaria Alliance said it was a targeted killing and condemned it.
