Man held for killing brother

KARACHI, Oct 28: A young man was shot dead allegedly by his brother in Shah Faisal Colony, police said on Friday.

They said that the incident occurred in Shah Faisal Colony No.5 where suspect Sarfaraz allegedly shot his 23-year-old brother, Hashmat, late on Thursday night.

The victim was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died on Friday morning.

The police said that initially the family tried to cover up the incident and claimed that a stray bullet had hit the victim. However, neighbours informed the police that they heard shots fired during a quarrel in the victim's house.

Subsequently, the police took the suspect into custody and he disclosed that he had become embroiled in an altercation with his father when Hashmat intervened and took their father's side.

The police said that the family had a milk shop where Sarfaraz used to bring his friends who according to the family were dubious characters. The family objected to this, they added.

The police formally arrested the suspect and registered a case (FIR 374/2011) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state at the Shah Faisal police station.
