Teenager killed

RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: A 15-year-old boy was killed after a stray bullet reportedly fired by a bridegroom and his friends hit him.

Attaullah, the father of the deceased, complained to the New Town police that a wedding ceremony was being held in the neighbourood while his two sons - Suleman, 15, and Arslan, 18, - were standing at the terrace of their house when a bullet fired by Qasim and others hit his younger son.

He said the injured was taken to hospital where he died early Tuesday. It may be noted that the Punjab government has already banned the use of firearms and crackers in wedding ceremonies but still such cases are being reported to the police. — Staff Reporter

Chambers’ heads to meet

RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) will convene “All Pakistan Chambers’ Presidents Conference’ in November to hammer out a solid plan to run State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) by the private sector.

According to a press release, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani invited the private sector to run the SOEs while addressing the 24th RCCI Achievement Awards ceremony last week in Islamabad.RCCI President Jawed Akhtar Bhatti said that RCCI always played a pivotal role in the national economic development and already organised three such conferences so far.

The fourth conference in November will chalk out strategy for SOEs working in private sector, Bhatti said and added that the date for the conference would be announced soon; however it would be held at Bhurban, Murree.— A Reporter

12 outlaws arrested

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The Kohsar police arrested three persons for allegedly taking away cellphone sets and other valuables from the house of a French diplomat at F-7/4.

Mr Claude, the third secretary at the French embassy, complained to the police that some unidentified persons had taken away the valuables worth thousands of rupees from his house on October 21.

The police arrested Riaz Ali, Mohammad Hanif and Zawar Khan, residents of Mansehra, and claimed to have recovered the stolen items from their possession.

Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Agency of the police arrested five members of a gang of robbers from their hideout in Malpur. Three pistols and a Suzuki Mehran car (ICT-LV-188) were also recovered from their possession.

During initial investigation, the accused confessed to committing robberies in Sabzi Mandi, Raja Bazaar, Fatehjang road, Dheri Hassanabad and other areas. The CIA also arrested a man after recovery of fake currency notes worth Rs41,000 from his possession.

Likewise, it recovered 510 grams of hashish from a man and arrested him. Similarly, a couple was arrested fortheir alleged involvement in theft in a house where they worked. — Staff Reporter
