Four held in Sarafa Bazaar robbery case

RAWALPINDI, Oct 22: The police here on Saturday claimed to have arrested four persons in connection with a robbery at Sarafa Bazaar three days back and recovered 1,371 grams of the looted gold from their possession.

The robbers snatched 2,124 grams of gold from Haroon Rashid, the employee of Samba Jewellers, when he was taking it to a goldsmith's workshop at Sarafa Bazaar on October 19.

“We arrested four accused who have been identified as Javed Akhter and Mohammad Shabbir, who worked with the Samba Jewellers; Amir Mehmood and Mohammad Shamraiz.

However, two other accused, Imran and the other unidentified, are still at large, said Malik Matloob Ahmed, the SP Rawal Town, while speaking at a press conference in Banni police station.

He said the police took the owner and employees of the shop into custody and during investigation, Shabbir said he and the other employee were unhappy with their employers for giving them meagre salaries and that was why he made a plan with Javed, Amir, Mohammad Shamraiz, Imran and an unknown person to loot the gold.

“Before the robbery, Javed, Imran and the unidentified person went to the shop to see Haroon Rashid, another employee, who was to take the gold to the workshop,” said the SP.

He said under a plan, Shabbir called his accomplices when Haroon left for the workshop carrying 2,124 grams of gold.

He said Imran and the other man intercepted him on the way and snatched the gold and escaped.
