Widow of Osama courier grilled

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: The Abbottabad Commission on May 2 US operation, on Wednesday, conducted detailed interview of wife of Abu Ahmed Al-Kuwaiti for the second time to ascertain that since how long Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden was residing in the military garrison.

An insider told Dawn that the widow of Al-Kuwaiti said she and her family accompanied Bin Laden for a long time and settled in Abbottabad together.

Al Kuwaiti, a leader of Al Qaeda or courier of Bin Laden is believed to be killed in the US operation.

According to media reports, some US officials said American forces were led to Osama bin Laden by his most trusted courier, a Kuwaiti-born man named Sheikh Abu Ahmed. Ahmed was a shadowy figure for U.S. intelligence, someone it took many years to identify. For a long time, intelligence officials knew him only by his nom de guerre, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti.

The meeting was attended by other members of the commission --Abbas Khan, former Inspector General of Police Ashraf Jahangir Qazi, and Lt. Gen. (retd) Nadeem Ahmed.
