LAHORE, Oct 14: An anti-terrorism court on Friday ordered a strict legal action against Defence-A police station officials involved in torturing PML-Q leader Ahad Malik’s daughter Ayesha Malik after a medical examination report submitted to the court confirmed torture on the lady during her physical remand.

The report submitted by the Services Hospital medical superintendent revealed that at least nine minor injuries were found on different parts of her body. The marks of the injuries suggested that the lady was beaten up with clubs and policemen also used their kicks and fists during their torture spree.

After going through the report, the court directed the Operations DIG to take action against all the policemen involved in torture on Ayesha Malik. With these directions, the court disposed of the petition.

Ayesha had sought a court direction for constituting a medical board to conduct her medical checkup to prove police torture on her during illegal physical remand. The court had ordered the police to get the petitioner medically examined and file a report.

A Filipino maid of the petitioner had got a case registered with Defence-A police, accusing Ayesha of kidnapping her son for ransom. An ATC judge had granted 10-day physical remand of Ayesha which was later suspended by the Lahore High Court being unlawful.

REPLY SOUGHT: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought replies from the Gulberg TMO and the Market Committee on a writ petition of merchants of Kot Lakhpat fruit and vegetable market against the government for not allowing them to run their shops.

Petitioners, through their counsel, pleaded that the city district government was shifting the market from Kot Lakhpat and not allowing them even to sit in their shops. They said the act of the government was illegal.

They pointed out that a case against the shifting of the market was also pending with the court, therefore, they should be allowed to run their business till the case decision.

After hearing the contention, Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh admitted the petition for hearing and sought replies from the respondents by Oct 19.

MOTORWAY: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging construction of the Multan-Faisalabad motorway.

Advocate Feroze Shah Gilani filed the petition and submitted that allocation of Rs47 billion for the project would be a misuse of public exchequer. He said the government should use this hefty amount to save the sinking ship of the Pakistan Railways and to overcome the gas crisis in the country.

The petitioner requested the court to restrain the government from constructing huge-budgeted Multan-Faisalabad motorway and direct it to use the allocated money for the improvement of railways and gas situation.
