Five remanded in weapons recovery case

RAWALPINDI, Oct 10: An anti-terrorism court here on Monday sent four persons on physical remand in the weapons recovery case. Another accused was sent to the Adiala Jail on judicial remand.

The Islamabad police produced Mohammad Mohsin Ali, Qari Arshad, Qari Imam Din, Qari Qayyum and Afzal before ATC judge Shahid Rafique.

The police sought the physical remand of the accused for seven days for further investigation and arrest of their accomplices.The court handed over four of the accused to the Shehzad Town police on seven days’ physical remand. However, Afzal was sent on 14 days’ judicial remand.

The capital police on October 8 seized a ‘huge cache of weapons’, including suicide jackets, 12 grenades, over a dozen detonators, 16 rocket fuses, 14 missiles (106, 107-R) and other weapons along with 90 sedative injections.

Police said suicide bombers were administered the injection.  A bomb disposal expert said the seized rockets could be fired by launchers or blown up using improvised explosive devices.
