Journalist found slain at home

LAHORE, Oct 7: A 28-year-old journalist associated with a London-based online publication was found slain at his house in A-Block of Johar Town early on Friday.

Police could not identify the motive for the killing and registered a case against unidentified killer(s) on the complaint of victim’s brother who did not name anyone but declared the murder a target killing.

Zahid Ahmad Qureshi was quoted as saying that his younger brother, Faisal Qureshi, was killed a few days after he received death threats over a news story published in The London Post about the alleged escape of a political party’s chief to South Africa.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Abdul Razzaque Cheema told Dawn that Faisal, who was contributing stories to The London Post owned by his elder brother, Dr Shahid Qureshi, in the UK, was found dead with his throat slit with a sharp-edged weapon and multiple wounds on his body.

He said the crime scene suggested that Faisal fought his killers hard before his murder and the assailants took away his laptop and cell phones. Quoting Faisal’s cousins, the SSP said he was a bachelor and living alone in his father’s house.

Quoting Dr Shahid, he said a student of Sheikhupura had been staying with Faisal for the last few days.

Cheema said police found an identity card and passport of Faheem at the scene. Shahid told police that the family did not know who Faheem was.

Sadar SP (Investigation) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhaira said a case had been registered against unidentified person(s).

Zahid mentioned in the FIR that Faisal was murdered for publishing news stories.

SUCCUMBS: A 45-year-old man succumbed to his wounds at the Lahore General Hospital on Friday, 19 days after his cousin’s men shot him injured in Yohannabad.

Nishtar Colony SHO Muhammad Akmal said Arshad Masih of Yohannabad was going with his wife on Sept 19 when some men shot him injured. His family named his cousin Mehmood as his murderer.
