‘Dengue’ patient passes away

RAWALPINDI, Oct 7: A prayer leader suspected of dengue  died at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) on Friday morning.

Bazi Khan, 70, a resident of Pindi Ghaib, Attock, was a prayer leader in a local mosque. He was brought to the hospital on Thursday evening with high fever and bleeding from nose.

Safqat Khan, nephew of the deceased, told Dawn that his uncle was suffering from dengue fever as his blood sample was tested positive. He said that his condition was not good so they brought him to HFH for better treatment.  Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Nadeem Malik said that Bazi Khan was brought to the hospital on Thursday night with symptoms of dengue fever. He said that the platelets of the patient were below the normal range and duty doctors sent his blood sample to National Institute of Health (NIH) for dengue serology. However, he said, the patient died early morning. He said that his dengue serology report was not yet received.

District Health Officer Dr Khalid Randhawa said that he was not a patient of dengue fever. He said that his blood sample had been sent to NIH and after confirmation from the NIH, the district health department would include the patient in its list sent on daily basis to the DCO for monitoring the dengue fever.—A Reporter

Founder of Shifa Hospital dies

ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shifa International Hospital (SIH) Dr Zaheer Ahmad died on Friday of brain hemorrhage.

A press release issued by the hospital on Friday said that Dr Zaheer was 63. Born in 1948, Dr Zaheer did his master’s degree in Pharmacy from the Punjab University and then MD in Internal Medicine from the West Indies.

He conceived the idea of establishing a hospital of international standard in Pakistan. He remained president and CEO of SIH since its inception. Dr Zaheer was an ardent philanthropist and passionate social worker. He has left behind thousands of his friends and colleagues and those whom he rendered helping hand.—Staff Reporter

Robbed of Rs530,000

RAWALPINDI, Oct 7: A man was robbed of Rs530,000 by four gunmen near Chandni Chowk, police said on Friday.

Haider Ali, the robbery victim said in his complaint that he along with his friend Ishfaq Ahmed was on way to home after selling his car when four motorbike riders intercepted him near Chandni Chowk and forced him to give up the cash.

He said the robbers snatched Rs530,000 and two cell phones from them and escaped. —Staff Reporter

Man killed on road

CHAKWAL, Oct 7: A man was killed as a trailer hit his car on Motorway in Salt Range area, police said on Friday. Sajjad Ahmad, a resident of Nowshera Cantonment was on his way on his car (D-1992) when a trailer (TLA 936) driven by Mohammad Rauf, a resident of Miran Shah hit the car. Sajjad Ahmad died on the spot. Kallar Kahar police registered a case and started efforts to trace trailer driver who managed to escape from the scene. — Correspondent

One shot, injured

TAXILA, Oct 7: A man shot injured a former liquor seller for refusing to provide him the liquor. Police sources said that Ibrar Shah, who was a liquor dealer in past, was present at his home when Afsar Khan came there and demanded liquor from him.

As he told him that he had left the illegal business, Afsar khan got infuriated and shot at him with his pistol and ran away. Ibrar Shah was taken to THQ hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Hassanabdal police registered a case and started further investigation. — Correspondent
