KARACHI, Oct 6: A political activist was killed within the remit of the PIB police station in the early hours of Thursday, police said.

The police said that the killing took place at the main bazaar locality of PIB Colony where Kamran Ganchi, son of AbdulGhaffar, was attacked by gunmen riding a motorcycle while he was sitting outside his burger shop after business hours.

The victim was rushed to hospital but he succumbed to his wounds on the way.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement claimed that Mr Ganchi was its worker and belonged to the party’s unit No 57.

The police said he was father of three.

Tension gripped the locality when his funeral prayers took place in the afternoon.

The police also quoted his family members as saying that the deceased did not have enmity with anyone.

No FIR of the incident was registered at the PIB police station till late Thursday, a duty officer confirmed.

Body foundThe body of an unidentified young man was found dumped near the KMC workshop in Old Golimar within the remit of the Pak Colony police station on Thursday morning.

A duty officer at the police station said that the victim appeared to be in his early 20s. His body was trussed up and bore torture marks, he said, adding that the victim had received a single bullet in his head.

He said that the body might have been dumped at the crime scene after the murder as there was no blood stains at the place.

The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities before it was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.

An FIR of the incident had not been registered till filing of the report.

Young man shot deadA young man was shot dead in the Manghopir area on Thursday.

Police said that Noor Ali Khan, 27, son of Ghulam Ali Khan, was sitting outside his house near Taqwa Masjid, Sultanabad, when two armed men riding a motorcycle came, shot him and fled.

The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said that the deceased was a dumper driver and hailed from Waziristan.

Wedding car ‘robber’ held Two occupants of a wedding car carrying a bride and her groom were injured while resisting an armed robbery within the remit of the Gulbahar police station on Thursday.

Police said that two armed men riding a motorcycle first snatched Rs5,000 from a man, Khurram, who was present at a filling station in his car. They then spotted the wedding car and chased it, the police said, adding that after intercepting the car the armed men tried to rob the occupants of jewellery but one of the occupants, Usman, posed resistance. They said that the armed men opened fire and a bullet brushed his shoulder before hitting Siraj Bibi, who was sitting in the back seat, police said.

As the suspects tried to speed away, people gathered around the car caught one of them but the other suspect managed to escape.

The held suspect was badly beaten up by the people, who later handed him over to the police. The police said his identity could not be ascertained immediately. A 9mm pistol was seized from him, they added.

The injured man and woman were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where both of them were stated to be in a stable condition.
