Body of man ‘shot dead by father’ exhumed

KARACHI, Oct 4: The body of a man who was allegedly killed by his father last month was exhumed from a graveyard in Mawachh Goth in the presence of a judicial magistrate on Tuesday, police said.

They said that the family of the 35-year-old victim, Mohammad Akram, buried him in the Muttahida Qabayal graveyard on Sept 20.

Mochko SHO Nasir Mehmood told Dawn that someone from the neighbourhood informed the police that gunshots were heard from the house of Mohammad Amin, the father of the victim, before Akram’s funeral.

Subsequently, the police picked up Amin and his relative, Yar Mohammad, and grilled them, he said, adding that the victim’s father disclosed that he had killed his son, while the second suspect led the police towards the place where he had concealed the crime weapon, a .30-bore pistol.

The police said that Mohammad Aslam, another son of Amin, was also involved in the planning of the murder and had escaped.

The SHO said that the victim had returned from Saudi Arabia a few months back and contracted a second marriage, which apparently became the cause of discord between him and his father. The family hails from Afghanistan.

A case (FIR 358/2011) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) and 34 (with common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Mohammad Amin, Yar Mohammad and Alsam at the Mochko police station on behalf of the state.

On Tuesday, under the supervision of a magistrate, a medical board exhumed the body from the grave and carried out a post-mortem examination following which the body was placed back in the grave.

The medical board was headed by Police Surgeon Dr Hamid Paryar and comprised Prof Farhat Mirza, Dr Abdul Haq and Dr Karar Abbasi.

Sharing the findings of the post-mortem examination, the police surgeon said that the victim was shot four times in the right side of the abdomen and all the bullets pierced his body.
