KARACHI, Sept 30: A sessions court granted bail to 30 officer-bearers of the labour union of the Karachi Electric Supply Company on Friday.

CBA chief Akhlaq Ahmed and his associates were booked for attacking the police, ransacking the KESC property and setting vehicles, including a police van, on fire during a protest demonstration against non-payment of salaries at the head office of the power utility in Gizri on Aug 29.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Shahid Hussain Chandio allowed the bail pleas against the surety bond of Rs30,000 each after hearing arguments from both sides.

Two cases were registered against the suspects at the Defence police station and they were arrested on the same day and later sent to prison by the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi. Later, the case was transferred to a regular court after the administrative judge ruled that the offence did not attract Section 7 of Anti-terrorism Act of 1997.
