Woman killed resisting robbery

BAHWALPUR, Sept 27: An alleged robber along with his woman accomplice killed a woman in Hasilpur, some 90 kilometres away from here, on Tuesday.

A man and a woman came on a motorcycle and entered Ms Tasleem's residence in Mohallah Gharibabad when she was alone at her house.

They tried to loot the woman but she offered resistance. The male intruder allegedly shot at and killed the mother of two on the spot.

After hearing gunshots, locals rushed to the scene and overpowered the woman while her male accomplice fled.

The police registered a case and sent the body to THQ Hasilpur for autopsy.

DENGUE: Three more patients were admitted to the special dengue unit at Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Tuesday.

Doctors told Dawn all the 25 patients were in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the TMA has formed 10 squads to carry out fumigation in different localities.

JAIL: Speakers at a symposium organised by the Cholistan Development Council (CDC), an NGO, have called for appointing woman superintendents in all juvenile jails, including Borstal Jail here.

The speakers, including CDC director Farooq Ahmed Khan and Dr Shehzad, said woman superintendents would be able to better reform young prisoners.
