891 vehicles with tinted glasses fined

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: Acting on the instructions of interior minister and Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) imposed fine on 891 vehicles with tinted glasses during last one week, police said.

The instructions were issued in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the country. In response to the directions, Senior Superintendent of Police (ITP) Dr Moeen Masood initiated the campaign against the vehicles with tinted glasses to eliminate VIP culture.

It may be mentioned here that the traffic police have no legal ground to fine the vehicles with tinted glass nor they have any provision of law to ban the use of tinted glasses in the vehicles. The traffic police fine such vehicles under the law providing legal ground to act against the coloured glasses which obstruct view from inside not from the outside of the vehicles.

Moreover, all the vehicles of police officers from the ranks of inspector to IGP, ministers, legislators and bureaucrats have tinted glasses which they use on the name of security.

In absence of legislation against the tinted glasses, the police are taking action on the instructions of the ministers and senior police and administrative officers.

The SSP ordered the traffic police to ensure observance of relevant laws and issue tickets to the violators. “The elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are our main objectives which would be achieved at all costs,” he maintained. He said that awareness campaign to create traffic sense among the road users would continue. The SSP was told that during this year, 8,797 tinted glass vehicles were fined while 891 vehicles were fined during last week.
