Three awarded capital punishment

CHAKWAL, Sept 22:  Three persons were awarded capital punishment being in two separate murder cases on Thursday.

In first case, District and Sessions Judge Maqarab Khan Niazi awarded death sentence to two culprits. Tariq Mehmood, Faisal Ameer and Khalid Mehmood residents of Khoday village had gunned down Samandar Khan, a civil servant on June 7, 2009.

On finding all allegations true, the judge sentenced Tariq and Faisal to death. The court also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on both the culprits. The two criminals would have to face six month extra imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.

In second case the culprit Shahid Iqbal resident of Saba Zer village was sentenced to death while his father Mohammad Sharif was jailed for three years by Additional District and Sessions Judge Qaisar Nazir Batt. Another accomplice Mohammad Ashrafwas imprisoned for two years.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on Shahid Iqbal. He would have to bear six month extra incarceration for failing to pay the fine. Two other accomplices in the case Abdul Wahid and Zaffar Iqbal were set free over the benefit of doubt. The convicts assassinated Mohammad Azam on March 22, 2008 and injured Mulazim Hussain and Mohammad Yasin over a land dispute.
