KARACHI, Sept 22: A judicial magistrate on Thursday remanded two suspects in prison in the murder case of a lawyer and his two friends till Sept 25 while some members of the legal fraternity had a heated argument with the suspects and their counsel.

Rehan Khan Niazi and Tazeen alias Jasmine were arrested on Sept 11 for their alleged involvement in the triple murder case and since then they have been in police custody on physical remand.

Following the expiry of the remand, the police brought the suspects to court and presented them before a judicial magistrate (south) on Thursday.

In the meantime some lawyers came to know that a member of the legal fraternity was representing the suspects despite a decision of the Sindh Bar Council that no advocate would defend the accused involved in the killing of a lawyer.

The lawyers rushed to the court and became angry with the suspects’ counsel who escaped from the scene. The quarrel caused the female suspect to see red and she reportedly had a heated argument with the lawyers.

The court immediately called in the area police to control the situation.

Public prosecutor Shamim Ahmed did not seek an extension in physical remand and informed the court that the investigation had been completed.

The investigation officer said that the police recovered the weapon used in the crime and stolen articles of the victims from the suspects custody and the statement of a prosecution witness was also recorded under Section 164 (power to record statements and confessions) of the criminal procedure code in which he identified both the suspects.

Judicial magistrate Hatam Aziz Solangi sent both the suspects to prison on judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet on the next hearing.

According to the prosecution, a KESC legal adviser, Fahim-ul-Karim, Wajid Mughal and Qurrat-ul-Ain alias Ainee were found shot dead in the apartment-cum-office of Mr Karim on Sept 5 in Defence Housing Authority.

A case (FIR No340/11) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Defence police station.

Indian fishermen sent to jail

Twenty Indian fishermen booked and arrested for fishing in Pakistani waters were remanded in judicial custody by a magistrate on Thursday.

The Maritime Security Agency detained the fishermen and seized their four fishing boats for fishing inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of Pakistan on Sept 21 and handed them over to police.

The fishermen were produced before a judicial magistrate (west) who remanded them in jail custody on 14-day judicial remand and ordered the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet.

The Docks police booked them in a case (FIR No.264/11) under the foreigners and the fisheries acts.
