Heroin concealed in charpoys seized

PESHAWAR, Sept 22: The law enforcers on Thursday recovered heroin powder from a consignment of furniture destined for Sydney, Australia, at the dry port of cantonment railway station here.

The personnel of customs told reporters the powder had been filled in the furniture, mainly in charpoys (cots), saying the furniture included nine cots, eight chairs and 12 closets, which had been supplied by Pak-Afghan Trading Company through a local ‘Shazeb Customs Agency’.

The officials said a man, Gul Anwar of the agency, had been arrested and investigation was underway. He said it was a routine export consignment but the law enforcers on a tip-off had broken a cot and recovered the narcotics.

The actual weight of the powder, he said had not been known. A source said that the personnel of customs and Anti-Narcotics Force exchanged hot words over who recovered the narcotics.

However, the high ranking officials of both the department arrived at the dry port and resolved the issue. A case into the case had not yet been registered.—Bureau Report / White Star Photo
