Two commit suicide

RAWALPINDI, Sept 21: Two persons committed suicide – one by hanging himself with a rope tied to the ceiling fan, the other by shooting himself – at Jamia Masjid road and Sadiqabad respectively on Wednesday, police said.

Suleman Iqbal 26, committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of rope tied to the ceiling fan at his house in Jamia Masjid road. According to his family, there had been nothing wrong with him which could have driven him to kill himself. He was a salesman at a spices factory in Islamabad.

Police said neither the victim left any suicide note nor his family had provided any motive behind the suicide. Later his body was handed over to his family after conducting the postmortem.

Likewise, another young man Shahab Wasim, a painter by profession, sitting at home shot himself dead with a pistol. According to his family, the motive behind the suicide was a marriage dispute.— Staff Reporter

Six outlaws held

ATTOCK, Sept 21: As many as six outlaws were arrested for their alleged involvement in different crimes on Wednesday.

According to sources, Fatehjang police arrested a cattle lifter, Mohammad Irfan for allegedly stealing a buffalo from a house. Saddar police held Tahir Khan and Muhammad Yaqub for possessing 105gm hashish and a 22-bore pistol respectively.

Pindigheb police recovered an 8mm rifle from Sher Zaman during search. Hasanbadal police also arrested a person for possessing a gun.

Jand police nabbed Murid Khan and recovered a 30-bore pistol and six bullets from his possession during routine checking near Baila road. Separate cases were registered against all of them. — Correspondent

Power shutdown

ISLAMABAD, Sept 21: Supply to the areas getting power from the following feeders would remain suspended for maintenance and development works, IESCO spokesman said.

Power supply will be suspended to Irfanabad, Scheme-II and Park Road feeders on Thursday, 22 September, from 8am to 1 pm. While Islam Pura, Jabbar and Qazian feeder will be facing suspension of power supply from 7am to 11am, on Saturday, 24 September.

Chowk Pindori, Sihala, New Rawat, HPT-1, RCCI and REDCO feeders supplying power to Chowk Pindori, Sihala, Rawat Bazar, Model Town, Banth, Chani Pul, Shah Bagh, Sagri and the surrounding areas will witness power outage from 8 am to 1 pm, he said.—A Reporter

Gang of dacoits busted

ISLAMABAD, Sept 21: The capital police on Wednesday busted an inter-provincial gang of dacoits allegedly involved in a number of robberies and street crimes and recovered weapons, stolen vehicles and cell phones from their possession, a police spokesman said.

He said Superintendent of Police (SP) Faisal Bashir Memon, acting on complaints lodged by the citizens against increasing number of robberies in the federal capital, constituted a team under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shahzad Town to arrest the culprits. Taking prompt action, the police team succeeded in arresting four persons when they were planning to commit a robbery in village Pindorian. During preliminary interrogation, they confessed their involvement in several robberies in different areas of the twin cities and other provinces besides snatching cell phones from the people especially from the women.

Shahzad Town police also arrested a man for possessing a 30-bore pistol. Meanwhile, Bara Kahu police nabbed an accused after recovery of a Kalashnikov along with 10 bullets from him. Likewise, Shalimar police apprehended a bootlegger and recovered 10 cans of beer.

Similarly, the Sabzi Mandi police recovered a 30-bore pistol from an accused. — Staff Reporter

Killings condemned

ATTOCK, Sept 21: Condemning the Mastung incident in which 26 pilgrims were gunned down, the religious scholars demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the brutal massacre.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the religious scholars including President Shia Ulema Council Punjab Syed Abdul Jalil Naqvi, President divisional Ulema Council Arif Hussain Wahidi, President TNFJ Attock district Arshad Jaffery Zafar Zaidi, Syed Khadim Hussain Naqvi and Syed Baqir Naqvi said that foreign elements wanted to create unrest in Pakistan by unleashing a wave of terror in the country.

They demanded that the government should take practical steps to restore peace in the country instead of making tall claims in this regard. The rulers should realise the critical situation as the enemies of Pakistan and Islam wanted to ignite sectarian violence and disharmony in the country in order to accomplish their nefarious designs, they maintained. They also called upon the people to forge unity among their ranks to fail the negative designs of the anti-Muslim forces.— Correspondent
