Two held in FIA raid in Clifton

KARACHI, Sept 21: A team of the Federal Investigation Agency raided the Clifton office of a private telecoms company allegedly involved in the illegal business of ‘grey telecoms traffic’ and arrested two people on Wednesday.

Grey telecoms traffic is a term used to describe illegal telecoms traffic in which calls from foreign countries are brought in the country as local calls while using illegal means.

An official said that the cyber crime circle of the FIA carried out the raid on the offices of the Quantum Global Communication, asubsidiary of Redtone, after the company was found operating the illegal business.

“The company was involved in running the illegal business of grey traffic under the cover of a Pakistan Telecommunication Authority licence and causing huge losses to the exchequer,” said the official.

He said that during the raid equipment, computers and laptops were seized and a case was registered against the Redtone vice president, Nadeem Younus, and the Quantum Global Communication managing director, Shahid Ahmed.
