Japanese journalists

RAWALPINDI, Sept 20: Intelligence agencies detained two Japanese journalists at Benazir Bhutto International Airport. However, one of them was later released; Dawn has learnt.

Naka Tako and Tsoneoka Kohsuke, who had embraced Islam after meeting Taliban leaders during their recent visit to Afghanistan, were going to Quetta in PIA flight PK-363 when they were taken into custody at the check-in lounge on Saturday afternoon. A source said both the passengers were kept under tight security at the airport and later Naka Tako was released.

However, Kohsuke will be deported to Japan on Thursday. “He will be flown to Karachi on a scheduled flight from where he will proceed to his country via China,” said the source. — Staff Reporter

Blind murders

ISLAMABAD, Sept 20: The capital police traced 30 blind murder cases during the current year and collected vital evidences against the culprits.

A spokesman on Tuesday said Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan had assigned special task to all the police stations to investigate these cases and provide relief to the families of the victims.

The police stations and Crime Investigation Agency succeeded in tracing the 30 murders after collecting forensic as well as other vital evidences.

The Shahzad Town and Golra police traced four and three murder cases; Industrial Area and Secretariat police four and one while Aabpara police traced three and Margallah police two murder cases.

The Sihala and Koral police traced two murder cases each while Tarnol, Kohsar and Shalimar police resolved three, two and one murder case, respectively. Similarly, Bhara Kahu and Sabzi Mandi police traced two and one cases, respectively.— Staff Reporter

Dengue awareness rally

ATTOCK, Sept 20:  A rally was organized here on Tuesday by the local administration to create awareness about dengue fever in public. The rally starting from Katchery chowk   was attended by people from all walks of life including government officials, teachers and students who were holding banners and placards containing the preventive measures against fever.

It ended on reaching Fawarah chowk passing through Committee chowk and the main bazaar. It is worth mentioning here that as per district health department record, 14 dengue suspects had been reported across the district. Three were declared positive by the National Institute of Health (NIH), however they had recovered after the treatment. While the remaining 11 patients were under observation at different hospitals in Rawalpindi including Benazir Bhutto hospital as they awaited blood test results.— Correspondent

Girls college in Murree

MURREE, Sept 20: A degree college for girls was inaugurated at Dak Bangla near Phagwari some 25 kilometers from Murree. MNA Shahid Khaqan Abbassi formally inaugurated the college in the remote area of the town.

He said that the college would cater to the needs of the girls’ education in the far flung areas of union councils Phagwari, Potha, Rawat and Deval and hundreds of female students who were formerly compelled to quit education after passing matriculation, would now benefit from the college.

He said that Punjab government allocated a heavy budget of Rs8 billions as endowment fund for the betterment of the talented students in the province.He said Danish schools are providing high quality education at par the standard of Lawrence College, Ghorra Gali and Aitchison College, Lahore. He also assured that he would try to get the sanction of a Danish School for Murree.It is worth mentioning here that the building of the college was completed by the previous government of PML-Q with an amount of Rs50 millions but classes commenced after a lapse of three and a half years owing to delays caused  by political tussles.— Correspondent
