Dengue patients

MARDAN, Sept 18: The detection of four more dengue cases has pushed the number of such patients to eight in Mardan district, said health officials on Sunday.

The health officials said the new dengue patients whose blood samples were found positive with dengue virus were identified as Fazal Ilahi of Bilal Mosque area, Rajwali of Gujrat Bakhshali village, Atif of Alam Khan Koroona and Tajuddin of Toor Abad Shergar area.

Medical superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Mardan, Dr Mohammad Tahir, confirmed seven dengue cases and said five of them had returned from Lahore. He, however, said there was no dengue patient in DHQ hospital at the moment.

Three dengue patients had been admitted in Mardan Medical Complex, he said. He pointed out that blood samples of 24 suspected patients had been taken which were being screened for dengue virus.

He said that lady health workers across the district had been mobilised to create awareness among the people about the prevention, cure and other necessary measures regarding the dengue virus.—Correspondent

Pakhtuns’ grievances

PESHAWAR, Sept 18: Chief of his own fiction of PPP Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said the ruling alliance has failed to redress the grievances of Pakhtuns.

Speaking at a press conference he said the Pakhtun nation was passing through a critical juncture of the history but the rulers had ignored them. On this occasion Omar Khattk, former provincial secretary information of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, and others announced joining the PPP-S.

Mr Sherpao said the Pakhtuns had rendered untold sacrifices in the current turmoil but neither the government nor the international community had honoured these sacrifices in terms of compensation.

He deplored the lack of interest on the part of international institutions to provide relief to Pakhtuns had heightened their sense of deprivation. He said even similar maltreatment had been meted out to the people of Afghanistan.—Bureau Report

Decomposed body found

KOHAT, Sept 18: The police found a decomposed body of an unidentified man near orchards in Regi Shino Khel area of Kohat city on Sunday.

The city police said the deceased had bullet marks and was wearing light brown clothes. The body was handed over to the tehsil municipal committee. A case was registered against the unknown killers.—Correspondent

MRI machine

ABBOTTABAD, Sept 18: The Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) has provided a MagneticResonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the Ayub Medical Complex Teaching Hospital (AMCTH) Abbottabad.

Dr Jehanzeb, head of the radiology department of AMCTH, told Dawn on Sunday the MRI machine was third in Pakistan as earlier such kinds of machines were installed in Agha Khan Hospital Karachi and Shifa International Islamabad.

The machine, which is stated to have cost Rs150 million, was handed over by Dr Shama of the Erra to the AMCTH Chief Executive Prof Dr Ziaur Rehman, during a ceremony the other day. Dr Jehanzeb said this was open MRI machine, which was considered to be patient friendly, and would easily help diagnose different kinds of diseases such as cancer, brain tumor and others.—Correspondent

PPP leader refutes allegation

MARDAN, Sept 18: The PPP leader and the Chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Accounts Committee Abdul Akbar Khan has rejected the charge of kidnapping a child.

Addressing a public meeting at Palo Dheray here on Sunday, he said some leaders and workers of PTI had made a baseless story of kidnapping a child against him.

He said some PTI leaders and workers had been trying to damage his political career and bring bad name to him in the area. “I have no personal enmity with Sher Ghani alias Sher Nawab who has levelled charges against me of kidnapping his son some nine days back,” he said, adding that he could not even think of such kind of action as he was a political personality and believed in serving the people.

He termed it a well-planed conspiracy against him by his political opponents who wanted to keep him from the common man.

He, however, said he would foil these conspiracies with the help of people.—Correspondent

Free eye camps

PESHAWAR, Sept 18: Comprehensive Eye Care Services, under the aegis of the Directorate of Fata Health Services, on Sunday organised five free eye camps in Mali Khel, Barki, Kmran, Malana and Mangla areas of Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

The free camps were organised to provide eye care services to people of far flung areas suffering from eye ailments.

More than 830 patients were examined by a highly qualified team of doctors and free medicines and glasses were provided to 375 patients while 32 patients of complicated nature were referred to agency headquarters hospital Parachinar.

Elders of the area appreciated Fata Health Services for its endeavours to serve the people of remote areas and demanded more free camps in future.—APP
