England clinch ODI series after rainy tie

LONDON: England sealed a series win over India after the fourth One-day International at Lord’s on Sunday was abandoned as a tie because of rain.

Chasing a target of 281, Ravi Bopara’s superb knock of 96 helped England reach 270-8 with seven balls remaining before rain forced the players off the field for the third time in the innings.

The match was eventually called off with England level with the par score in the Duckworth-Lewis Method reading.

The hosts are 2-0 up in the five-match series and can’t be caught heading into the final game, at Cardiff on Friday.

Suresh Raina (84) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (78 not out) had earlier put on a flamboyant fifth-wicket stand of 169 as the Indians set a competitive target.—AP
