Enmity claims two lives

GHALANAI, Sept 8: Two persons were killed and one was injured over an old enmity in Pandyali tehsil of Mohmand tribal region on Thursday.

Officials said rivals opened indiscriminate fire on Sher Malal and his nephew Shabbir Khan killing them both while injuring a passer-by Mir Zaman of Yakhdand Utmanzai.

The motive behind the gory incident was an old enmity. Residents said five people had been killed from both sides since the hostility started in 2006. The tribal elders have, however, succeeded in temporary ceasefire between the rival groups.—Correspondent

Car-lifters kill man

MARDAN, Sept 8: Unidentified car-lifters killed a taxi driver after snatching car from him on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, police said.

Quoting Arshad Ali, son of the victim, officials of Saddar police station said the taxi driver identified as Qasim Shah left his house a day before in his car bearing No-771-IDN as usual.

He told police when his father did not return home they got suspicious and worried about him.On Thursday, he said, his family members found his father’s body near the Saleem Khan village nullah. The personnel of Saddar police station registered FIR against unidentified attackers on the complaint of Arshad Ali.—Correspondent

Scholar remembered

SWABI, Sept 8: Tributes were paid to prominent religious scholar of subcontinent, Maulana Mohammad Fareed Baba, for his services to humanity, at a daylong Mufti Fareed Conference held here on Thursday. The conference organised by JUI-F wasattended by a large number of people, ulema and scholars.

Speakers said Mufti Fareed devoted his entire life to the service of Islam and rendered numerous sacrifices for spreading Islam and deliver message of peace and love throughout his life. Explosives seized

PESHAWAR, Sept 8: Police claimed on Thursday to have seized an explosive-laden vehicle and arrested two alleged militants in limits of Chamkani police station.

An official of the police station said two accused identified themselves as Gul Mohammad Khan of Malakaddher Nasir Bagh and Bacha Khan of Mandani Shawa Dag Charsadda.

“During the initial interrogation they disclosed that the explosives weighing about 25 kilogram loaded in a car (LOX-7240-Khyber) had been brought from Kashmir and were being taken to Darra Adamkhel,” the official said.

He said they were under interrogation and it was yet to be ascertained if they were members of the banned armed groups or carriers of the explosive materials.—Bureau Report

Rickshaw drivers protest

PESHAWAR, Sept 8: The drivers of auto-rickshaws on Thursday took out a procession on the G.T Road and blocked vehicular traffic against the police for imposing restrictions on movement of the tri-wheelers.

The protesters led by their president Haji Amanullah Khan were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the impounding of rickshaws and shouted slogans against police. The procession was taken out from Faqirabad to Hashnagri Chowk creating hurdles in flow of traffic on the G.T Road. Amanullah said police had banned plying of rickshaws on certain roads and impounded at least 500 rickshaws during the past three days, depriving them of their source of living.—Bureau Report

Kidnapped children

PESHAWAR, Sept 8: The Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) has expressed concern over the kidnapping of 27 children, belonging to Bajaur Agency, who have been held hostage for over a week by the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. In a statement on Thursday Sparc said the government and the non-state actors, including the TTP, should follow international humanitarian laws and Islamic injunctions so that children, women and innocent men could be protected during the ongoing conflict.—Bureau Report
