Former councilor looted

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: A former UC councilor was deprived of Rs47,000 by a swindler inside a bank, police said on Thursday.

However, he was paid the amount by the bank when he alleged that he was looted by the swindler in connivance with the bank staff members. Earlier, he got the FIR registered against the culprit and the bank staff including the security staff. But, later, he settled the issue with the bank after getting the amount. —Staff Reporter

Robbers held

ISALAMABAD, Sept 8: The Sabzi Mandi police claimed to have arrested seven robbers and thieves and recovered gold ornaments and other valuables from their possession.A spokesman on Thursday said a police team during patrolling arrested the accused for their alleged involvement in robberies and theft.

The police recovered looted and snatched items, including gold ornaments worth Rs700,000, a laptop and mobile phones, from their possession.— Staff Reporter

UET entry test on Sunday

TAXILA, Sept 8: The combined entry test for the admissions in engineering institutions of the Punjab for undergraduate programmes (entry test-2011) would be held at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila on September 11 (Sunday) at the university campus.

Earlier, the test conducted by the university on August 24 was cancelled due to the leakage of the papers.—Correspondent

Victim of ‘police torture’

CHAKWAL, Sept 8: A boy, who was allegedly picked up and tortured by the local police, reached home on Thursday after twelve days.

Ali Adnan, a resident of Basharat village of tehsil Choa Syedan Shah disappeared from his house on August 26. His parents said he was picked up by Choa Syedan Shah police.

Meanwhile, Ali Adnan’s medical examination was carried out at DHQ hospital but the medical report was yet to be issued.When contacted, DSP Malik Iftikhar denied the

charges of habeas-corpus and said that police had not kept Ali Adnan in illegal custody. However, he confirmedthat Ali Adnan was arrested by the police three days ago. — A Correspondent
