KESC CBA chief, workers sent to jail

KARACHI, Sept 8: The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts on Thursday remanded 27 officer-bearers of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) labour union, including CBA chief, in judicial custody till Sept 12 for their violent protest last month.

The KESC CBA chairman, Akhlaq Ahmed, and his associates were booked by the Defence police station for attacking the police, ransacking KESC property and setting vehicles including a police van ablaze during the protest demonstration against non-payment of salaries outside the Gizri head office of the power utility on Aug 29. They were remanded in police custody the following day.

The police produced the suspects before the administrative judge of the ATCs, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court, who also directed the investigation officer to produce the evidence before the court on the next hearing.
